Development: Amazon wins new water terminal

The Amazon is a state of continental dimensions. The municipalities are linked in networks, through the rivers of the region. The main access to the various localities is still air, but the high cost of transit passes limited inter. To reverse this situation, the government of Amazonas signed, last Monday (25), an agreement with the Ministry of Transport, through the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT).

The partnership would allow the building until May 30, 2010, 15 water terminals in the Amazon. The total of $ 130 million will be used, of which $ 52 million already committed. The package is part of the shares of the Growth Acceleration Program. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Transport, Alfredo Nascimento, the governor of Amazonas, Eduardo Braga from other officials.

Opening the activities, the director general of DNIT, Luiz Antônio Pagot, delivered to the mayors terms of monitoring the works, they appear data on values, dates, commitments, charges etc.

"With the action, we are generating about 1,500 new jobs. These ports have a number of ancillary works to give an undertaking to each individual character. For example, bound to the terminal, will also be built refrigerators, generators and a whole infrastructure that legalize the receipt of cargo, "said Alfredo.

Eduardo Braga took the opportunity to announce that the Federal Government released the amount of $ 50 million (to be released in coming weeks) to help the victims who suffered from flooding in the state. The value will be divided as follows: $ 40 million for the interior and $ 10 million for capital. According to the governor today, more than 30 thousand families in the state receive the SOS flood.

"Besides the construction of the terminal, the Federal Government, through the Comara [Airports Commission in the Amazon region], announced the release of $ 22 million for retirement of 11 regular airports and approved by Infraero in the region," said Braga.

The following municipalities have initiated their terminal: Barreirinha, Boa Vista do Ramos, Itapiranga, Careiro of Varzea, Iranduba, Codajás, Canutama, Beruri, Tapauá, San Gabrial da Cachoeira, Guajará, Ipixuna, Itamarati, Carauari and Eirunepé.
